I haven't seen Avatar, but I've read the PopSci (Popular Science to you laymen) and the special effects seem really cool.

I mostly like animation, especially Pixar.
My favorite film of all time is Little Shop of Horrors WITH the original ending. A test audience ruined the entire point of the story. Imagine if Romeo and Juliet was subjected to focus groups.

Re: The Movies Thread
Hahahahaha. But I mean FOCUS GROUPS, not advertising. For those who don't know what the big deal about the play Little Shop is, I'll explain.
There's a nice, kind, shy, quiet guy. He's poor. He has a crush on a girl who's being abused by her boyfriend. He's in the poor part of town, and wants to escape. The story is full of musical numbers done by Alan Menken [lyrics written by Howard Ashmen]. But the story is that of great literature. In a Poe-style twist...the only way to get everything he ever wanted is MURDER. Every psychological horror scene was IMMEDIATELY followed by slapstick comedy and/or a musical number to lighten the tension. Unfortunately, this led people into thinking the play was a musical comedy. Little Shop of Horrors is still one of the most widely produced plays, but misconceptions about the premise caused a poor focus group to be chosen for the film adaption [little kids and their parents]. This resulted in the world-changing crisis about capitalism, greed, and "the American way" to be removed from the film.
Sound interesting? Either go see Little Shop with the original ending OR the play. Your life will be changed forever.
[fanboy rant out]

Re: The Movies Thread
I've seen it. And yes, it is fabulous. "I am a man of constant sorrow..." The movie is supposed to be kind of based off of Homer's Odyssey. That's why it has, for example, the cyclops (that's the guy with one eye.) Excellent, excellent movie, and after you own that, you should buy the soundtrack (like we did.) Definitely worth it.movie magic man wrote:

Okay, so I went and saw Avatar agin today.
The scene you people keep going on about wasnt that bad. They kissed, than they hugged. Thats not, ahem, that. And its immediatley followed by shotguns.

I saw it a while ago. Doesn't it have George Cloony in it?
Earlier today, I saw Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief. It was pretty cool. Grover wasn't at all like grover from the book... But he was still cool. It was pretty sweet of a movie.

Okay. Who here has seen The Day After.
Okay, so it starts with the USSR cutting off West Berlin from everywhere, and than eventualy taking over West Berlin. They Then nuke a NATO headquarter. The US explodes a nuke mid-air above Berlin. the Soviet Union and the US fire nukes at each other. The rest of the movie is people trying to survive once the bombs go off.
It. Is. The. Freakiest. Movie. Ever.

I just got done watching 2012.
It is a fantsatic movie. The plot is great, and actually has a believeable reason as to why the Earth is ending. I highly recommend.
