A New Direction?

{In 1 step ahead style, I thought about calling this topic "Should we decide to take it in a bit of a different direction," but that just seemed too long. I wanted to get the reference out there anyway, though. So...yeah.}

As we all know, TBC have not posted since April, in a huge hiatus that has fans worldwide worried (and that's hard to say.) In fact, there is a distinct possibility that we have seen the end of Homestar Runner dotnetit'sdotcom.

However, this is not the topic to discuss that. The point is, it is clear that our forum needs to go in a new direction. It doesn't have to be a huge, drastic change or anything. But change is needed.

Look at how little discussion we've had as of late! Let's be serious, folks: we were all complaining about the lack of new posts. The only reason that it has picked up lately is thanks to the lovely Miss Falcon Paunch (our new user, if you haven't met her, go say hello.) And until then, I hadn't realized just how badly we needed to change.

So what should we do?

Well, Mr. Diskette, or at least his Re-Imagining, has suggested that we get rid of all of the Homestar Runner related things on this forum. He has suggested that we simply make it a big off-topic section.

Another possibility is that we could focus more on classic E-mails and whatnot; making more topics for those.

We could become more fanstuff-oriented.

I have several opinions on this, but I'm going to wait until other people have posted here to share them.

So what do you think?

I sort of like the idea of switching focus to fanstuff and classic Homestar stuff. I really don't want to just drop Homestar and makes this place off-topic land. Perhaps we could extend the off-topic section a bit, but I think our main focus should somewhat stay on the H*R related stuff. That's what brought this forum together, and, if you think about it, it's practically the only thing we all have in common.

How about we sort of half-'n'-half the forum? By this I mean that we could include equal amounts Homestar, equal amounts Random. I could see the forum divided into subforums like-a this:

-Forum Discussions (for general talk about the forum, such as this current little chit-chat)
-Homestar Discussions (this could then be divided into categories such as toons, classic emails, etc.)
-Random Discussions (which would be divided into categories such as religion & politics, random polls, etc.)
-Forum Games (this would be divided into Homestar Forum Games and Random Forum Games)
-Fanstuff (this would be divided into Homestar Fanstuff and General User-Made Stuff)

Of course, all categories could then be divided further if necessary. What do you all think of that idea?

A single thread for Homestar isn't much better than having no Homestar on the forum.

Don't get me wrong, JACKIE FREAKIN' CHAN, I highly agree that it's messed up to have nine Homestar subforums and one Random subforum when the Random gets more activity. But I don't think that we should just reverse the roles. That's why I suggested the forum stylings above. It keeps a decent focus on Homestar, while still dividing up space with the Random so that it's not relegated to the bottom of the forum barrel.

We're not completely changing the focus of the forum. We're simply expanding the Off-Topic section. It's idiotic to give the Homestar discussions nine different subforums when the off-topic has just one and is more active. Hold on to your pantaloons, Triple M!

BUT: I would still prefer it if it didn't change. Whats wrong with keeping Off-Topic... well... off topic! This forum is about Homestar Runner. I don't really think changing it to "general discussion" and making the main focus of the forum is a good idea.
